October is already coming?! Don’t panic, there are plenty of interesting events in Florence to keep you busy. Here a selection of what we think you shouldn’t miss.
14 oct – Diaframma – No Cage – Prato
One of the best band come out of Florence. Since the early 80s this band is a mix of punk, new wave and rock.
20 oct – Biffy Clyro – OBIHall – Firenze
Is one of the most popular rock band of the moment. Their live set are always full of energy and young crazy fans!
24 oct – PJ Harvey – OBIHall – Firenze
She is a singer-songwriter, a writer, a poet, and a composer and she will finally play in Florence. Is going to be one of the best tour of the year! Don’t miss it!
Various oct – Musica dei popoli – Flog – Firenze
This is the 11th edition of the ethnic music festival that take place at F.L.O.G., one of the most popular places for live music in Florence. Have a look to the calendar.

1 – 2 oct – Mostra mercato di piante e fiori – Giardino dell’orticultura – Via Bolognese,17 – Firenze
In the amazing garden “Giardino dell’orticultura” you can find more than 50 exhibitors selected among the best Italian floriculturist. You can buy flowers and plants or just enjoy the exibition.
1 – 2 oct – Fiera della ceramica – Piazza Santissima Annunziata – Firenze
This international open-air ceramics fair is one of the best things to do in Florence. Artisans from all over the world show their skills and display their beautiful handcraft creations. Items cover a wide range of pottery: rustic ceramics, majolica, fine porcelain as well as gres and raku pieces that go from the classics (platters, bowls, mugs, etc) to jewellery and decorative objects.

9 oct – Flea market – Piazza Santo Spirito – Firenze
15 – 16 oct – Flea market – Piazza Vittorio veneto – Firenze

This is the last month for this nice festival. In the lovely location of Villa Bardini you can enjoy duets and popular arias from the most loved operas.
3-4 oct – The space in between: Marina Abramovic in Brazil – Cinema Odeon – Firenze
A documentary about Marina Abramovic traveling through Brazil, in search of personal healing and artistic inspiration, experiencing sacred rituals and revealing her creative process.
12 oct – David Lynch – The art life – Cinema Odeon – Firenze
Lynch tells some remarkable intimate memories and reflections in a non-stop interview that is brought to life in photographs and home movies.

Ron Howard returns to direct the latest Dan Brown’s bestseller. Tom Hanks return on a trail of clues tied to the great Dante himself, set for the most in Florence!

ART AND EXPOSITIONS
2 oct – Free Museum day – All state museum – Florence
The first Sunday of each month is the free state museum day in all Italy. State museums in Florence are: Uffizi, Accademia, Bargello, Medici Chapels, Pitti Palace (all museums), San Marco (open every second Sunday), Palazzo Davanzati (open every second Sunday morning only), Medici Villas.
6/15 oct – Florence Biennale – Fortezza da Basso – Florence
The Biennale is an independent self-financed platform for contemporary art set at Fortezza da Basso from October 6th to October 15th. It is a forum for artists of all types coming from all over the glob, an important events that enlivens the Medicean city since XI years.
8 oct – Festa di Santa Reparata – Duomo – Firenze
Every year on October 8th Florence celebrates its co-patron with the Florentine Corteo Storico. A foot race starts and ends in piazza San Giovanni, in front of the Duomo. Runners in the race are picked among the local footballers, and the competition is kicked off by a marching procession of the Florentine Republic dressed in period costume. The procession leaves from piazza di Parte Guelfa (near piazza Repubblica) and marches on towards the Duomo at 4 pm. This is a good occasion to take part in one of the more traditional things to do in Florence in October!

Teatro del Sale – Via dei Macci 118/red
Good brunch/buffet for lunch (since 12am for € 20) and bohémien dinner with theatre performances. The chef is quite famous in Italy and is interesting to see him cooking from the huge wall glass between the kitchen and the dining room.

Teatro della Pergola – Via della Pergola 12/32
The Pergola is much more than a theater, it is a living cultural center. It has multifaceted activity, which finds its culmination in the great season of prose, but is home to hundreds of different and important events. It is extremely exciting to breathe in a theatre have exceeded 350 years after the inauguration and is still vibrant.
Cinema Stensen – Viale Don Minzoni 25/C
Movie since the early morning. This cultural association is run by excellent, smart people. The usual program include restored classics Japanese to new less popular releases.
Cinema Odeon – Piazza Strozzi
One of the oldest movie theatre in Florence. The program always take care of original version movies.
Spazio Alfieri – Via dell’Ulivo 6
This theater is super close to Cuckoo Florence apartments. They have a cultural approach showing movies, theatre, music and visual arts.
Le Murate – Piazza delle Murate
Located within the complex of the Murate, the super old former prison in Florence. Is inserted in a context of multiple cultural initiatives, serving as a landmark of international scope. Le Murate is a place of confrontation between opinions, the meeting of different cultures and originality of the proposals: literary, artistic, gastronomic.
